About people in the home
The founder of Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt Home in the city of Los Angeles was Alexandra Ivanovna was born in 1905 in the city of Kronstadt. At an early age, she had to leave her Motherland. In 1950, Alexandra Ivanovna came to the United States. She devoted all her hard work, skills, and management talent to the care of the elderly and lonely Russian people. She understood how important and essential it was for an elderly and lonely person to live out his/her life in Russian environment, in Russian home.
In 1963, Bishop Averky, the Rector of Jordanville Seminary, the Dean of the Holy Trinity Monastery, the Chairman of the Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt Charitable Fund, and approved Alexandra Ivanovna’s activities and wrote a letter to her and to Yelena Antonovna Ganet, her devoted helper. This letter permitted them to set up the Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt Home in the city of Los Angeles. This Home was supposed to become a heritage for the Orthodox and Russian-speaking people in California.
The opening of the Home for the elderly was blessed by Lavr, the Bishop of Manhattan, the Vicar of the East American Diocese. The liturgy was served at the chapel of the newly built Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt Home. Local clergy was assisting His Grace Lavr. Per the blessing of Bishop Lavr, Fr. Lexander Miliant, the Dean of Holy Protection Cathedral, become the spiritual guide of the Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt Home. Since 1998, archpriest Konstantine Tivetsky become the priest of the chapel and the spiritual guide of the Kronstadt Home.
Currently, the Home is under spiritual guidance of Peter (Lukyanov), Archbishop of Chicago and Middle America. Alexandra Ivanovna’s dream became the reality due to her efforts. The wise woman understood that to continue the most important dead of her life, it was necessary to find a successor capable to proceed with love and self-sacrifice. And such a person was found. In 1990, she asked Mikhail Georgiyevich Plautin, and he agreed to become the President of the Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt Home.
On December 4, 1990, the day of celebrating the Entrance of the Holy Theotokos into the Temple, the great devotee Alexandra Ivanovna Merger finished her earthly journey. In 1998, Liana Vertelkina, a young, educated, intelligent woman came to work for the Home. Immediately, Mikhail Georgiyevich noted that she was hard-working, easy to talk to, and loving people. In 1999, Liana Georgiyevna Vertelkina became the Home the Administrator of the Home according to the recommendation by M.G. Plautin, the blessing of Bishop Alexander Mileant, and the highest approval by Metropolitan Lavr. Upon her arrival, the Home started a new interesting life. Traditions and the generational continuity are religiously adhered to at the Home. Alexandra Ivanovna passed her “baby” to a worthy successor, M.G. Plautin, and Mikhail Georgiyevich passed the management on to the warm caring hands of Liana Georgiyevna.
In 2013, due to an illness, Mikhail Georgiyevich had to leave his position as a President of the Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt Home, but remained a member of the Board of Directors. Along with his spouse, Nina Ivanovna, he moved to the Home, to which the both of them had devoted a lot of hard work, energy, and material means. Mikhail Georgiyevich yielded his presidential position to Sergey Bazarevich in his time, was the vice-president of the Kronstadt Home.
There are no randomly selected people at the Home. The Home is based on the traditions of love, care, and helping one’s neighbor. This is the spirit of the Home, and only those who share such traditions and adhere to them, remain working here. Family continuity, traditions, and professional qualities of each employee constitute the special incomparable style of the Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt Home. People who come to work here appreciate the style of the Home, are ready to share the other people’s burdens, and help a person to go through a hard ordeal of the old age with dignity.
The activities of the Home are subject to California State Laws and are governed by the Social Security Administration. In 2015, the Lady’s Committee has resumed its work at the St. John of Kronstadt Home under the leadership of Valentina Dmitryevna Kruglova. The Kronstadt Home provides elderly people with living in a home-like environment: A separate room, Russian food four times a day, cleaning, and laundry. If necessary, the personnel of the Home are helping the residents with dressing, bathing, and taking medications. All these services are included in the rent fee. Primary care physician, various medical specialists including a hygiene and a dentist, are regularly invited to the Home. Special care and attention are given to those who underwent a surgery or had an illness. The residents are required to be capable of moving themselves inside the building. Temporary use of a cane or a walker is acceptable, as well as temporary use of a wheelchair.
Once a month, an Orthodox priest visits the Home to serve a Sunday Liturgy. Also, visits to nearby churches are set up. The residents may receive and visit their relatives, go out and take outdoors trips. At the home, all Orthodox holidays and residents’ birthdays are celebrated, and charity dinners and concerts are held.

Открытие дома для пожилых людей благословил Епископ Манхэттенский , викарий Восточно Американской епархии Лавр. Литургия проходила в домовом храме Святого Праведного Иоанна Кронштадтского во вновь построенном доме . Владыке Лавру сослужило местное духовенство. По благословению Владыки Лавра духовным попечителем Дома Святого Праведного Иоанна Кронштадтского стал настоятель Свято – Покровского храма отец Александр Милеант. С 1998 года священником домового храма и духовным наставником Дома Кронштадтского стал протопресвитер Константин Тивецкий . В настоящее время Дом находится под духовным попечительством Петра (Лукьянова) Архиепископа Чикагского и Средне – Американского, Председателя Фонда Св . Праведного Иоанна Кронштадского. Мечты Александры Ивановны воплотилась в жизнь . Мудрая женщина понимала , что для продолжения дела ее жизни необходимо найти преемника, который мог бы заниматься им с такой же самоотверженностью и любовью , как она сама . И такой человек нашелся . По ее просьбе в 1990 году президентом Дома Святого Праведного Иоанна Кронштадтского стал Плаутин Михаил Георгиевич.
В день празднования Введения во храм Пресвятой Богородицы – четвертого декабря 1990 года – великая подвижница Александра Ивановна Мергер закончила свое жизненное странствование . В 1998 году в дом на работу пришла молодая , образованная , интеллигентная женщина – Лиана Вертёлкина . Михаил Георгиевич сразу отметил ее трудолюбие, общительность и любовь к людям . В 1999 году по представлению Плаутина М.Г. , по благословению Владыки Александра Милеанта и по Высочайшему одобрению Митрополита Лавра , Лиана Георгиевна Вертёлкина стала администратором дома . C ee приходом Дом начал жить новой интересной жизнью . В доме свято сохраняются традиции и преемственность поколений . Александра Ивановна передала свое детище достойному преемнику Плаутину М.Г. , а Михаил Георгиевич передал администрирование в теплые и заботливые руки Лианы Георгиевны.
В 2013 году из – за болезни Плаутину Михаилу Георгиевичу пришлось оставить пост Президента Дома Святого Праведного Иоанна Кронштадтского , но остался членом совета директоров . Вместе с супругой Ниной Ивановной они переехали они переехали жить в дом, которому отдали много трудов, сил и материальных средств . Свой президентский пост Михаил Георгиевич передал в руки Сергея Базаревича . Отец Сергея – Николай Базаревич – в свое время , был вице – президентом Дома Кронштадтского . Не случайные люди трудятся в этом доме. При самом основании дома в нем был заложен дух любви, заботы и помощи ближнему . Этим духом пропитаны стены и воздух дома, и работать тут остаются только те люди , которые проникнуты тем же духом. Семейная преемственность, традиции и профессионализм всех сотрудников создают неповторимый особый стиль Дома Святого Праведного Иоанна Кронштадтского .
В Дом приходят работать люди , которым дороги традиции дома , готовые разделить тяготы ближнего , помочь человеку достойно прожить нелегкое время старости . В 2015 году в Доме Кронштадского возобновил работу Дамский комитет , который возглавила Валентина Дмитриевна Круглова . Деятельность дома регулируется законами штата Калифорния и контролируется Отделом социального обеспечения. Людям преклонного возраста Дом Кронштадтского предлагает проживание в домашних условиях : отдельная комната , русская еда четыре раза в день , уборка помещений , стирка белья . При необходимости сотрудники дома помогают жильцам одеться , искупаться , принять необходимые лекарства . Все услуги включены в стоимость проживания . В Дом регулярно приглашаются врач – терапевт и специалисты по различным заболеваниям , включая врача- гигиениста и стоматолога . Усиленный уход и внимание оказываются тем , кто перенес операцию или заболевание . От жильцов дома требуется способность самостоятельно передвигаться по зданию . Разрешается передвижение с помощью трости и ходунков , а также ( временно ) с помощью кресла – каталки .
Для желающих раз месяц православный священник приезжает служить Воскресную Литургию . Организуются выезды в близлежащие церкви . Жильцы могут принимать и посещать своих родственников , выезжать в город и на природу . В Доме отмечаются все православные праздники , дни рождения , проводятся благотворительные обеды и концерты . Дом Святого Праведного Иоанна Кронштадтского это – особый стиль , традиции , преемственность поколений , профессионализм , комфорт , уют!
